Where the Majestic One-Horned Rhino and the Royal Bengal Tiger Reign
Kaziranga National Park
Spanning over 430 sq km, Kaziranga National Park is home to the world’s largest population of the endangered one-horned rhinoceros, as well as a host of other wildlife including Bengal tigers, wild elephants, and water buffaloes. The park’s mosaic of grasslands, wetlands, and dense forests provides a rich habitat for over 35 species of mammals and more than 500 species of birds, making it a biodiversity hotspot.
Visitors can explore the park via jeep safaris and elephant-back safaris, offering excellent opportunities to spot wildlife up close. The park is divided into four main ranges — Western, Central, Eastern, and Burapahar, each offering a different wildlife experience. The vast open spaces, herds of grazing rhinos, and the vibrant birdlife create a mesmerizing setting for nature lovers.
Nameri National Park
Located about 100 km from Kaziranga, Nameri National Park is a less-explored gem, known for its pristine landscapes and peaceful atmosphere. The park is home to a variety of wildlife, including elephants, leopards, and gaurs, as well as several species of deer. However, Nameri is particularly famous for its birdlife, with over 300 bird species, including the rare white-winged wood duck.
Nameri offers a quieter, more intimate experience compared to Kaziranga. Visitors can explore the park on river rafting trips along the Jia Bhoroli River, enjoy guided nature treks, or indulge in birdwatching amidst the dense forests. The park is part of the Nameri Tiger Reserve, but it is the park’s serenity and its harmonious blend of forest and river that make it truly special.
